The American Fire Control (AFC) A-3500 Grooved Swing Check Valve is designed for fire protection systems to allow water flow in one direction while preventing reverse flow within the piping network.
The valve uses an internal swing-type disc with a spring mechanism. It opens automatically under normal forward flow and closes when flow stops or reverses, helping protect fire pumps, piping and fire protection system components from backflow.
Key Features:
• Grooved swing check valve.
• Model A-3500.
• Designed for fire protection systems.
• Allows water flow in one direction.
• Prevents reverse flow within the piping network.
• Internal swing disc with spring-assisted closing.
• Suitable for indoor and outdoor use.
• Suitable for horizontal or vertical installation.
• Ductile iron valve body.
• Stainless-steel internal disc, spring and fasteners.
• EPDM sealing ring.
• Bronze C95400 seat.
• Internally and externally fusion-bonded epoxy coated.
• Coating complies with ANSI/AWWA C550.
• Alternative coating can be supplied upon request as stated in the catalogue.
• Maximum working pressure of 350 PSI or 24 bar.
• Maximum test pressure of 700 PSI or 48 bar.
• Operating temperature from 0°C to 80°C.
• Available in sizes from 2 to 12 inches.
• UL Listed as shown in the catalogue.
• FM Approved as shown in the catalogue.
• Groove dimensions comply with metric requirements or AWWA C606.
Operation:
Under normal forward flow, water pressure pushes the internal disc open and allows water to pass through the valve.
When flow stops or reverse pressure occurs, the internal spring assists the disc in returning to the closed position, preventing water from flowing backward through the piping.
The valve operates automatically without an external power source, using flow direction and differential pressure.
End Connections:
The A-3500 model is supplied with grooved ends compatible with:
• AWWA C606.
• Metric grooved dimensions.
Available Sizes:
• 2 inches.
• 2.5 inches.
• 3 inches.
• 4 inches.
• 6 inches.
• 8 inches.
• 10 inches.
• 12 inches.
Main Construction Materials:
• Valve body: Ductile Iron ASTM A536 65-45-12.
• Disc: Stainless Steel ASTM A276 Type 304.
• Coil spring: Stainless Steel ASTM A276 Type 304.
• Nut: Stainless Steel ASTM A276 Type 304.
• Bolt: Stainless Steel ASTM A276 Type 304.
• Spring washer: Stainless Steel ASTM A276 Type 304.
• Seal ring: EPDM to ASTM D2000.
• Seat: Bronze C95400.
• Drain plug: Stainless Steel ASTM A276 Type 304.
• Pin plug: Stainless Steel ASTM A276 Type 304.
• Gasket: EPDM to ASTM D2000.
• Hinge pin: Stainless Steel ASTM A276 Type 304.
Applications:
• Automatic sprinkler systems.

• Fire hose networks.
• Fire pump discharge lines.
• Fire pump rooms.
• Fire protection water-distribution piping.
• Indoor and outdoor installations.
• Grooved piping systems.
• Piping locations requiring backflow prevention.
Standards and Approvals Shown in the Catalogue:
• UL Listed.
• FM Approved.
• AWWA C606.
• ANSI/AWWA C550 for the protective coating.
The appropriate valve size should be selected according to pipe diameter, flow rate, working pressure, installation orientation, hydraulic calculations and project requirements.
