The American Fire Control (AFC) A-3150 Flanged Swing Check Valve is designed for fire protection services to allow water to flow in one direction while preventing reverse flow within the piping network.
The valve uses an internal swing-type clapper that opens under normal forward flow and closes automatically when flow stops or reverses. This helps protect fire pumps, piping and fire protection system components from backflow.
Key Features:
• Swing-type fire protection check valve.
• Model A-3150.
• Designed specifically for fire protection service.
• Allows water flow in one direction.
• Prevents reverse flow within fire protection piping.
• Full-waterway construction to reduce flow restriction.
• Internal swing clapper for automatic shutoff.
• Suitable for fire protection water lines.
• Ductile iron valve body.
• Ductile iron disc and clapper arm.
• EPDM sealing ring.
• Stainless Steel 304 hinge pin.
• Bronze seat ring.
• Internally and externally fusion-bonded epoxy coated.
• Coating complies with ANSI/AWWA C550.
• Maximum working pressure of 300 PSI or 21 bar.
• Maximum test pressure of 600 PSI or 42 bar.
• Operating temperature from 0°C to 80°C.
• Available in sizes from 2 to 12 inches.
• UL Listed as shown in the catalogue.
• FM Approved as shown in the catalogue.
• Meets or exceeds AWWA C508 requirements.
Operation:
Under normal forward flow, water pressure pushes the internal clapper open and allows water to pass through the valve.
When flow stops or reverse pressure occurs, the clapper returns automatically to the closed position, preventing water from flowing backward through the piping.
The valve operates automatically without an external power source, using flow direction and differential pressure.
End Connections:
The A-3150 model is supplied with flanged ends compatible with:
• ANSI B16.1 Class 125.
• ANSI B16.42 Class 150.
Available Sizes:
• 2 inches.
• 2.5 inches.
• 3 inches.
• 4 inches.
• 6 inches.
• 8 inches.
• 10 inches.
• 12 inches.
Main Construction Materials:
• Valve body: Ductile Iron ASTM A536 65-45-12.
• Cover: Ductile Iron ASTM A536 65-45-12.
• Cover gasket: EPDM to ASTM D2000.
• Clapper arm: Ductile Iron ASTM A536 65-45-12.
• Disc ring: EPDM to ASTM D2000.
• Disc: Ductile Iron ASTM A536 65-45-12.
• Retainer washer: Bronze ASTM A148.
• Hinge pin: Stainless Steel ASTM A276 Type 304.
• Pin plug: Stainless Steel ASTM A276 Type 304.
• Seat ring: Bronze ASTM A148.
Applications:
• Automatic sprinkler systems.
• Fire hydrant systems.
• Fire hose networks.
• Fire pump discharge lines.
• Fire pump rooms.
• Fire protection water-distribution lines.
• Commercial and industrial fire protection systems.
• Piping locations requiring backflow prevention.
Standards and Approvals Shown in the Catalogue:
• UL Listed.
• FM Approved.
• AWWA C508.
• ANSI/AWWA C550 for the protective coating.
• ANSI B16.1 Class 125.
• ANSI B16.42 Class 150.
The appropriate valve size should be selected according to the pipe diameter, flow rate, working pressure, hydraulic calculations and project requirements.
