The American Fire Control (AFC) Model 5100 Vertical Indicator Post is an important fire protection system component used to operate buried or difficult-to-access gate valves while providing a clear visual indication of whether the connected valve is open or shut.
The indicator post is installed above ground and connects to a buried NRS gate valve through an adjustable operating stem. This allows the valve to be opened or closed from ground level without direct access to the underground valve.
Key Features:
• Vertical indicator post.
• Model 5100.
• Clearly indicates valve status as OPEN or SHUT.
• Enables operation of buried or difficult-to-access valves from ground level.
• Designed for use with NRS gate valves.
• Compatible with valve sizes from 4 to 12 inches.
• Adjustable telescoping stem.
• Normally eliminates the need for field cutting.
• Open and shut signs can be adjusted by removing the post head.
• Locking wrench can be secured with a padlock.
• Suitable for installation above buried fire-water piping.
• Internally and externally epoxy painted in RAL 3000 red.
• UL Listed as shown in the catalogue.
• FM Approved as shown in the catalogue.
• Compatible with the American Fire Control (AFC) A-3100 PIV-NRS Gate Valve.
• Suitable for sprinkler, hydrant and standpipe systems.
• Provides quick visual verification of isolation-valve position.
Operation:
The indicator post connects to the operating nut of the buried valve through an internal operating stem.
When the upper operating wrench is rotated:
• The rotational movement is transferred to the internal stem.
• The stem operates the underground NRS gate valve.
• The indicator mechanism moves within the upper post head.
• The OPEN sign is displayed when the valve is open.
• The SHUT sign is displayed when the valve is closed.
This allows the valve position to be confirmed without excavating or entering an underground valve chamber.
Field Adjustment:
Model 5100 includes an adjustable telescoping pipe and stem to suit the depth of the buried valve.
Basic adjustment steps include:
• Remove the post head to adjust the OPEN and SHUT targets.
• Adjust the telescoping stem and pipe to the required length.
• Attach the post base to the valve post plate using the supplied bolts and nuts.
• Align the operating stem with the valve operating nut.
• Verify correct OPEN and SHUT indication after installation.
Compatible Valve Sizes:
• 4 inches.
• 6 inches.
• 8 inches.
• 10 inches.
• 12 inches.
Main Model 5100 Dimensions:
• Dimension A: approximately 700 mm or 27.5 inches.
• Dimension B: approximately 1000 mm or 39.3 inches.
• Dimension C: approximately 1248 mm or 49.1 inches.
• Dimension D: approximately 297 mm or 11.7 inches.
• Base diameter: approximately 305 mm or 12 inches.
