About the project
This warehouse serves the Danube and BinDawood stores, the two grocery retail brands of BinDawood Holding, which is listed on the Saudi Exchange (Tadawul). The group opened its first BinDawood store in 1984, Danube joined in 2001, and by October 2021 the group had 76 stores across the Kingdom, making distribution warehouses an essential link in keeping them supplied.
Why fire and life safety matter in a grocery distribution warehouse
Food is rarely the main fire load in a grocery warehouse; packaging is. Cartons, plastic wrap and timber pallets are usually stored alongside cooking oils, cleaning products and aerosols. In large storage halls, fire and smoke spread quickly and exits can be far from staff and forklift operators. A fire here can also interrupt deliveries to many stores at once. Protection has to detect a fire early and suit the way goods are stored, in line with the Saudi Building Code (SBC 801) and Civil Defense requirements.
AZEIDK’s role
AZEIDK supplied and installed the warehouse’s fire protection, alarm and security systems, then tested and commissioned them in line with the project requirements.
