About the project
eXtra is the retail brand of United Electronics Company, which was established in Riyadh on 1 January 2002 and is now headquartered in Al Khobar. The company has been listed on the Saudi Exchange (Tadawul) since 24 December 2011 under the symbol 4003. In May 2024 it opened its 50th branch in Saudi Arabia, on Riyadh’s Northern Ring Road, bringing its total to 55 branches across Saudi Arabia, Oman and Bahrain. Alongside its showrooms, it runs the extra.com e-commerce platform and after-sales services, and offers consumer financing through its subsidiary Tas’heel Finance.
Why fire and life safety matter in electronics showrooms
An electronics showroom concentrates lithium-ion batteries, powered display units and charging points in a space open to the public for long hours. Battery fires can develop quickly and give off dense, toxic smoke, so early detection and a clear alarm are essential to clear the sales floor in time. Stockrooms add cartons, foam packaging and plastics behind the scenes, while sales floors need fire-fighting coverage that reaches between tall fixtures. Because showrooms carry high-value stock, security and surveillance systems belong to the same safety picture, protecting goods and staff during and after trading hours. Civil Defense requirements and the Saudi Building Code (SBC 801) govern these systems in retail showrooms.
AZEIDK’s role
AZEIDK worked on eXtra’s facilities in the Kingdom, carrying out the supply, installation, testing and commissioning of fire protection, alarm and security systems according to project requirements.
