TYCO Series TY-B Fire Sprinklers are standard-response, standard-coverage automatic sprinklers available in upright, pendent and recessed-pendent configurations.

Important Note for 1/2-inch K8.0 Models:

The catalogue states that NFPA 13 prohibits the installation of 1/2-inch NPT sprinklers with K-factors greater than 5.6 in new construction.

Models TY4851 and TY4951 are therefore primarily intended for retrofit or replacement in existing sprinkler systems rather than as default selections for new systems.

Operation:

The sprinkler contains a glass bulb filled with heat-sensitive fluid.

When the rated operating temperature is reached:

• The fluid inside the bulb expands.
• The glass bulb shatters.
• The sealing assembly releases.
• Water begins to discharge.
• The deflector distributes water according to the selected sprinkler orientation and spray pattern.

Corrosion Protection:

Corrosion-resistant finishes can extend sprinkler service life in selected aggressive environments.

The final finish should be evaluated according to:

Passing standard corrosion tests does not mean that a finish is suitable for every corrosive atmosphere.

Working Pressure:

Maximum working pressure varies according to the model and applicable listing shown in Table D of the catalogue.

The selected model, connection and finish must be checked against the catalogue pressure table before final approval.

Installation Requirements:

• Do not install a sprinkler with a cracked glass bulb.
• Replace sprinklers that have lost bulb liquid.
• Apply suitable pipe-thread sealant.
• Tightening torque for 1/2-inch NPT models is 7 to 14 lb-ft.
• Equivalent torque is 9.5 to 19 N·m.
• Use the W-Type 6 sprinkler wrench for exposed sprinklers.
• Use the W-Type 7 recessed sprinkler wrench for recessed models.
• Do not apply installation force to the bulb or deflector.
• Do not over-tighten the sprinkler inlet.
• Use only the applicable Style 10 or Style 40 escutcheon.
• Install the escutcheon closure after ceiling completion without lifting the ceiling panel.

Care and Maintenance:

• Do not hang objects from sprinklers.
• Clean sprinklers only by gentle dusting.
• Do not field paint or coat the sprinkler.
