But the number of minutes alone is not enough to choose the right door: ratings differ between standards and cover the door, frame, hardware, glazing and seals together, as tested.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-0d8be48 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"0d8be48\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<h2>Reading a European classification<\/h2>\n<p>Doors are tested to EN 1634-1 and classified under EN 13501-2. An example classification is EI2 60-C:<\/p>\n<div class=\"az-table-wrap\"><table>\n<thead><tr><th>Code<\/th><th>Meaning<\/th><\/tr><\/thead>\n<tbody>\n<tr><td>E<\/td><td>Integrity: stops flames and hot gases passing<\/td><\/tr>\n<tr><td>I1 or I2<\/td><td>Insulation; the number depends on how insulation is measured, and the two are not interchangeable<\/td><\/tr>\n<tr><td>W<\/td><td>Limits radiation<\/td><\/tr>\n<tr><td>C<\/td><td>Self-closing<\/td><\/tr>\n<tr><td>Number<\/td><td>Duration in minutes; door classes include 15, 20, 30, 45, 60, 90, 120, 180 and 240 minutes<\/td><\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table><\/div>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-b367226 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"b367226\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<h2>US and UK standards<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>In the US, doors are tested to UL 10C, with positive pressure followed by a hose stream test, or to NFPA 252, and installed and maintained to NFPA 80, which is not a test standard. UL 10C ratings are 20, 30, 45, 60, 90, 180 and 240 minutes, with no 120-minute step.<\/li>\n<li>In the UK, BS 476-22 is being phased out: from 2 September 2029, Approved Document B will accept only European classifications.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-fe365ef elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"fe365ef\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<h2>What duration is required?<\/h2>\n<p>The door rating follows the rating of the wall it sits in and the code. In codes based on the International Building Code, 2-hour stair and shaft walls take 90-minute doors, 1-hour stair, shaft and exit passageway walls take 60-minute doors, and other 1-hour fire barriers take 45-minute doors. On each project, refer to the adopted Saudi code and Civil Defense requirements.
